Description

In the United States, FDA is the authority regulating dietary supplements and the ingredients contained therein. This article aims to review the current regulatory paradigm for dietary supplements containing dietary ingredients in the United States. Consumers need access to safe dietary supplements, transparent safety information, and clinical trials to support and evaluate new claims. Updates to DSHEA must address a more transparent and clear risk-based safety standard, a publicly available listing of dietary supplements and their ingredients marketed in the United States, and a more efficient and stronger FDA mandatory recall authority.
