The Older Americans Act Nutrition Program (OAANP is the only federal food assistance program that reaches out to older adults who have difficulties leaving home without assistance by providing them with healthy meals delivered to their homes. It was last updated in 2020. The authors synthesize information obtained through various means to present approaches and best practices in increasing equity and inclusion in the OAANP and in other similar programs.

  1. Identify the barriers to outreach services for older adult minority populations.
  2. Describe opportunities and best practice activities to increase service equity to underserved older adult populations.
  3. Explain the necessity to leverage existing resources to provide nutrition services for older adults in minority populations and the need for diversification of staff within these agencies.
