This program will review the benefits of a treatment approach for adults who stutter which focuses on core communication competencies rather than attempt to modify speech fluency. Affective and cognitive variables of communication in persons who stutter will be addressed along with post-treatment gains in clinician-perceived communication competencies. Significant psychosocial and communicative benefits from treatment designed to focus on communication effectiveness rather than fluency for adults who stutter will be discussed.
