Activity Steps

Description

The COVID-19 pandemic created a need for innovative communication strategies across all industries. In health care, telehealth bridged the gap between providers and patients. The goal of the authors' study was to determine if sociodemographic variables and medical-surgical diagnoses were associated with telephone follow-up (TFU) reach rates, emergency department (ED) visits, and hospital readmissions. A key finding was that meeting face-to-face before discharge increased TRU rates, a lower percentage of ED visits, and fewer readmissions.
