They include definitions of the microbiome and present results of a literature review exploring the relationship of low-/no-calorie sweeteners (LNCSs) to selected aspects of the gut microbiota. The authors conclude that more research is necessary to discern the effects of LNCSs on the gut microbiota and human health.
