Description

Social determinants of health (SDOH) are the environmental, economic, and social factors that influence people's health outcomes. In addition to these factors, immigration status can impact individuals in acute care, subacute care, community-based care, and workers' compensation. Through case study examples, the authors describe the challenges faced by those who are undocumented and uninsured. The central argument of this article is that case managers in every care setting need to take immigration status into consideration just as they would any SDOH.

  2. Describe challenges faced by undocumented immigrants that can impact health.
  3. Recognize how federal and state laws apply to provision of health care for undocumented immigrants.
