Activity Steps

Description

This learning activity provides an in-depth understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of acute respiratory failure (ARF). Acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome are components of acute respiratory distress and are part of this learning activity. This learning activity discusses terms, etiologies, blood gas abnormalities, diagnostic measures, and pathophysiologic changes, along with respiratory therapy interventions.

Learning Objectives

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. explain the three functional causes of acute respiratory failure (ARF).
  2. describe the pathophysiologic processes that lead to ARF.
  3. discuss treatments to manage ARF.
