Activity Steps

Description

A Case Management Society of America (CMSA) task force published The Practice of Hospital Case Management: A White Paper in 2019. This marked the first step to outline the value of hospital case managers and included recommendations to operationalize a major change in most hospitals for how case managers can practice. However, SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) pandemic drastically changed the practice of all interdisciplinary work within hospitals. The pandemic prevented leaders from considering the White Paper recommendations and how to implement the necessary changes. The authors explain how drastically the health care environment has changed in three years. They suggest strategies for leaders to address problems inherent in a multigenerational workforce, the "great resignation" and the lack of title recognition.
