This three part series focuses on ethical situations related to palliative care across the life span. Each article must be read prior to completing the post test. The post test is a combination of questions related to all three articles.

Purpose of Activity

Communication and Cultural Sensitivity for Families and ChildrenWith Life-Limiting Diseases: An Informed Decision- Making Ethical Case in Community-Based Palliative Care provides guidelines for providing non biased family-centered palliative care, based on a study in which a team of community-based pediatric palliative care nurses assisted a family facing an ethical dilemma. When Advocacy Extends Life: Age and Diagnosis Discrimination in Patients with Serious Illness provides information about age and diagnosis discrimination in health care. Hope for a Miracle: Treatment Requests at the End of Life explores how hope for a miracle at the end of life leads patients to request aggressive treatments.
