This three part series focuses on various areas of treatment in working with adolescents. Each article must be read prior to completing the post test. The post test is a combination of questions related to all three articles.

Purpose of Activity

Mind & Body Practices in the Treatment of Adolescent Anxiety provides an overview of the mind and body practices of biofeedback, mindfulness, yoga, and hypnosis for the treatment of anxiety in adolescents. Therapeutic Approaches for Suicidal Adolescents provides an overview of adolescent suicide. Anorexia Nervosa in Adolescents: An Overview reviews current treatment approaches and appropriate interventions for adolescents diagnosed with AN.

Learning Objectives/Outcomes

After completing this continuing education activity you will be able to:

  1. Recall the prevalence and clinical presentation of anxiety in adolescents, current therapies, and the role of the pediatric NP in its treatment.
  2. Summarize the practices of biofeedback, mindfulness, yoga, and hypnosis and the evidence for the use of each in the treatment of anxiety in adolescent patients.
  3. Recognize risk factors for adolescent suicide.
  4. Identify common methods of suicide used by adolescents.
  5. Identify techniques to intervene effectively with suicidal adolescents.
  6. Identify risk factors for AN.
  7. List complications of AN.
