Unlike psychological research, speech-language treatment research lacks well-controlled studies that examine the impact of distribution of treatment on efficacy. The authors summarize key findings from psychological research on learning and memory, review existing studies of aphasia treatment that have examined how the distribution of practice affects treatment efficacy, and suggest future lines of research to expand the clinical applicability of distributed practice principles to language treatment.
